Boating on Lake Glenview - Season Open

Recreational boating is a wonderful way to exercise, enjoy nature, relax and spend time with friends and family. The Glenview Park District is excited to provide opportunities for non-motorized boating on Lake Glenview. The boating season runs May 1-Oct 1.

Neighbors Meeting

Join as for a Neighbors Meeting at the Glenview Park Golf Club Clubhouse to see initial design plans for the new Turf Care Center to support maintenance at GPGC. The existing maintenance facility is located at the northwest corner of the Golf Club. The Park District is proposing to rebuild the new Turf Care Center in the same location. We invite you to attend one of two meetings to hear more about the project plans and provide feedback. More info.

The second meeting date is scheduled for Monday, June 3, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Get Out and Go Treasure Hunt

Get the family out and go on a nature-inspired outdoor treasure hunt! Search for hidden clues while exploring the natural areas of Gallery Park and Kent Fuller Air Station Prairie. Walk or ride bicycles and earn points for answering questions about discoveries along the way. Pick up your treasure map at Park Center. No advance registration is necessary.

Mother's Day Mug Workshop (ages 5-7)

Make a functional mug for whoever you’re celebrating! All mugs will be available for pick up by May 10, just in time for Mother’s Day. All mugs will be food safe and dishwasher and microwave safe.

Deadline to Register: Bags League at Grandpa’s Place  

Tuesday Nights • June 11-July 30 • 6:30 p.m.

LEAGUE IS FULL

Grab your partner and play bags this summer at Grandpa’s Place on the back lawn. Enjoy a cold drink and a juicy burger while playing and have lots of fun! There will be a postseason tournament at the end of the regular season. Prize for tournament winner.

Players must be 21 years and older. Glenview resident team fee is $100 and non-resident fee is $125. One sub is included in the fee. Spots are filling up fast! Deadline to register is June 3.

Cicada Celebration & Exhibit Opening

Celebrate the arrival of the Brood XIII Periodical Cicada! Explore the phenomenal lifecycle of the 17-year Cicada with a full day of educational fun for the entire family!

Other activities: Guess the number of cicada shells in a jar and win exciting prizes. Insert your face in our cut-outs and imagine you are a giant cicada. Stop by The Grove Store for souvenirs.

Be inspired by our talented adult and youth dancers, ages 5-90 years young, celebrating the heart connection of nature and dance!  Center Studio for Dance offers year-round classes in rhythmic gymnastics, specialty dance and all traditional dance genres. Cicadas & the Brood XIII Emergence with Dr. Cicada

Cicadas are here! Discover what all the buzz is about from Dr. Cicada himself! University of Connecticut-Hartford entomologist John Cooley, Ph.D. will be visiting The Grove Program Barn and presenting an engaging, educational, hands-on cicada adaptive program for all. Brood XIII’s exact emergence dates are unclear so stay in the know! Registration is required and seating is limited.

Hops & Hike: Cicada Broods & Brew

Join us at the Archives Building at The Grove for an night of exploration, libation and natural wonder at Hops & Hike: Broods and Brew. Discover the fascinating world of Brood XIII periodical cicadas – a spectacle that occurs only once every 17 years. Enjoy craft beer tasting and camaraderie around the campfire as we are serenaded by the mating call of nature’s Romeo! Then it’s time to hit the trails on a guided evening hike. For ages 21+, registration required.

Grove Literary Society

In the tradition of the original Grove Literary Society established by Robert Kennicott and his father Dr. John, The Grove Heritage Association hosts a new book club that focuses on books about the natural history to better understand where and how we live. Historic Wagner Farm Livestock Fair

Livestock are the heart of any good state or county fair and at the Wagner Farm Livestock Fair, they’re the stars of the show! Watch local 4H students compete with their animals, meet a variety of livestock, and discover the technology, old and new, that helps farmers manage their animals. Enjoy hands-on activities including dairy trivia, “butter” carving and molding, hen and chick meet and greets, games and much more! There will also be delicious food for purchase – breakfast burritos, donuts, grilled cheese sandwiches, ice cream, grilled portabellas, hamburgers, hot dogs and more.

🌈 Rainbow Explorers: A Family Adventure in Prism Science

Explore what a rainbow is, what are the different colors, how a rainbow is formed in nature and learn how to make your own with prisms. Take your prism home to continue exploring the beautiful colors and uniqueness of rainbows.

For ages 7 and up. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

🏳️‍🌈 Color Hike with Pride

To inspire more opportunity for inclusivity and connection in the outdoors, The Grove welcomes all for a casual, fun and colorful guided trail hike. Meet like-minded individuals and celebrate the impact and accomplishments LGBTQAI+ people have had on the natural world. Wear good closed toe shoes and dress for the weather. Rainbow attire encouraged. Free, however registration is requested.

Spring on the Farm

Step back in time to experience a spring day on the farm in the 1920s. All ages are welcome. When the choring is done, check out some popular recreational pastimes from 100 years ago and join us for a classic Automobile Picnic Lunch (pre-order from Wagner Farm or bring your own).

  • Meet the young livestock.
  • Mix up homemade 1920s cleaning solutions
  • Plant flowers to take home and learn why they were common around outhouses
  • Discover trendy picnic recipes from yesteryear
  • Make giant soap bubbles
  • Test out a 1920s camping cot and learn about cooking over a campfire
  • Help white-wash the barn
  • Enjoy wagon rides and hand-milking demonstrations (starting at 10 am)
  • Take part in sack races and other lawn games
  • Get a jump-start on summer with ice cream from the Sweets and Treats Ice Cream Parlor.

Mother's Day Tea

Ages 13+
Take that very important person in your life out for a unique experience at The Grove. Guests will enjoy a three-course tea luncheon in the Historic 1856 Kennicott House. Learn proper tea etiquette and hear the Legend of the Fan. Service staff will be dressed in period attire. Hats will be provided or wear your own!

Kids to Parks Day

Go Play Outside! Join The Grove for a national day of outdoor play, designed to connect kids and their families with their local, state and national parks and to create the next generation of park stewards and caretakers. Visit the Interpretive Center and experience some hands-on animal encounters, download the free Grove app and go on a self-guided Fairy Quest, or join us on a guided trail hike at 2 pm. Tee it up at one of the best golf outings of the season! The 28th Annual Firecracker Classic Golf Outing will be held Friday, June 21st at The Glen Club. This important and time-honored fundraising event has supported many notable contributions that enhance our Park District’s recreation services, programs, and facilities to provide healthy recreational events for the Glenview community. A great opportunity to enjoy a fun day with your friends at the exclusive Glen Club while supporting the work of the Glenview Park Foundation. The Foundation provides much needed funds for the Park District’s Leisureship Financial Assistance Program. These funds allow children from families with limited means to participate in Park District programs.

Evenings on The Farm

Enjoy everything summer evenings are supposed to be at Historic Wagner Farm. Come out to the farm from 5-8 p.m. on special Fridays in June, July and August to enjoy extended hours at the Heritage Center and Sweets and Treats Ice Cream Parlor. Bring a picnic and enjoy entertainment from community performers, tour the farmhouse and take a stroll on the farm. No registration is required.

Glow Skate

All Are Welcome 🏳️🌈 at this special public session at the Glenview Community Ice Center to celebrate Pride Month.

  • Cosmic skate with music under the disco ball. Includes glow sticks and other giveaways.
  • Ice Bumper Cars are available for $15 per 20 minute session. Register online or in person at the front desk.
  • Use your public skate pass or pay the the front desk.

Pioneer Day

Could you live without electricity, central air, running water or even – gasp! – a flush toilet? Embark on an epic journey to discover what life was like in the 1800s. Bring the pioneer experience to life as you follow your map and travel along The Grove’s Trails.

  • Try out hands-on activities – candle dipping, tin punching and pioneer chores
  • Play old-fashioned pioneer games and enjoy music from the past
  • Meet reenactors from a Civil War-era Army Corps of Engineers and learn about their important contributions

NOTE: Ticket times for admission are every 15 minutes starting at 11 am. Last ticketed admission time is at 2 pm. Please select an admission time when purchasing online.

This is a free drop-in program that takes place outside! Here are some suggestions for what to wear to the celebration (tip: it is important to wear clothing that you don’t mind getting really dirty):
– Rubber boots or old sneakers
– Swimsuit or an old t-shirt and shorts.
There will be water for rinsing off. We recommend bringing a beach towel, clean shoes and a plastic bag to hold your muddy gear after the celebration.
