Moths Matter presentation

Join The Grove and the Glenview Gardeners to learn about the wild and wonderful lives of moths, nature’s nocturnal pollinators! Local lepidopterist Violet Krol will discuss how moths differ from butterflies, their importance as pollinators, and what you can do to support them.

Grove Literary Society

In the tradition of the original Grove Literary Society established by Robert Kennicott and his father Dr. John, The Grove Heritage Association hosts a new book club that focuses on books about the natural history to better understand where and how we live. Forest Bathing

Join us as we gather with the trees that are shedding their leaves. Use breathing exercises to explore our cycle of breath with the plant life around us. We will explore the forest using our observation skills to notice how the wind impacts the sounds, textures, and scent of the forest.

Rockin’ Out Concert Featuring Sweeney!

Grab your lawn chairs and join us for a rockin’ evening overlooking the beautiful Glenview Park Golf course. The band Sweeney will be playing classic rock hits. Tickets are $10 per person and an open bar package for the concert is $40 (payable at the door).

Summer Restoration Work Day at The Grove

For ages 8+, volunteers under age 15 must participate with an adult.

Collect seeds or remove non-native, invasive plants to make way for native wildflowers, grasses and trees. Bring work gloves if you have them and meet at the Interpretive Center. RSVPs are appreciated so we can so we can plan appropriate Work Day activities. Work parties may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

3-Part Program Series (for ages 12+)

Skip the fringe and create an authentic 1920s vintage look for Halloween! During week one, learn how to make a genuine 1920s dress using Mary Brooks Picken’s infamous (and highly adaptable) one-hour dress pattern. Week two, explore 1920s hairdos. Week three, complete your costume with a 1920s makeup-look and celebrate your hard work and accomplishments with delicious mocktails!

Note: A basic understanding of sewing machines is required for the first class on September 15. All supplies will be provided. Sign up for individual classes, or all three for a discounted rate (section D).

Yappy Hour Series: National Dog Day Celebration (dog park members only)

Community Bark West will be hosting three exciting FREE events exclusively for dog park members. Not a dog park member? Click here for more info to join! Join us to celebrate your favorite four-legged friend on this special day. Take your best spin on our prize wheel and cool off with Kona Ice’s refreshing shaved ice while your dog enjoys fun activities. This event is rescheduled from it’s original date on August 26.

Family Desserts

Spend an evening at Historic Wagner Farm with your family and friends enjoying the best part of a meal – the desserts! The gourmet treats will feature produce grown on the farm and will showcase how delicious eating seasonally can be. We’ll also take some time to visit the livestock and learn about the process of growing food on a farm.

Cops and Bobbers

Ready to reel in the big one? This FREE event is a must for your young anglers, 5-15 years. Glenview Police and park district staff will assist with baiting and reeling in fish. The largest fish caught in each category wins a prize:

  • 5 Years and under
  • 6-8 Years
  • 9-12 Years
  • 13-15 Years

You are encouraged to bring your own fishing gear and bait. Bait for purchase and free loaner equipment available while supplies last.

Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Please dress for the weather!

New Discovery Room Grand Opening

Explore the new Discovery Room at The Grove! Join us for a free community grand opening celebration and open house. The Discovery Room includes a replica of Robert Kennicott’s skeleton, a large multi-species landform exhibit, enhancement of the current scavenger hunt exhibit, interactive discovery table, welcoming kiosks, and framing of existing animal exhibits.

The Discover Room renovation was funded through a $375,000 Illinois Public Museum Capital grant, and designed by Bluestone and Associates.

A public presentation & dedication will be held at 10 a.m. Enjoy a free open house with activities, giveaways, & more from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
