Splash Landings Indoor Aquatic Center at Park Center is undergoing a transformative renovation designed to enhance users’ experience. From new play features to improved and modernized facilities, this project will bring improved comfort, accessibility, and fun for everyone in the community. This project is partially funded by a $2.8 million Park and Recreational Facility Construction Act (PARC) grant, administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The Park District will cover the remaining costs using designated reserves, ensuring no additional burden on taxpayers.
What’s Coming?
Here’s a glimpse of what’s in store:
- Enhanced Comfort and Safety: Separated water temperature controls for lap and activity pools, improved air and water quality, and upgraded pool surfaces.
- Revitalized Features: A reimagined interactive play structure in the zero-depth activity pool, a thrilling new slide, and a warmer zero-depth pool.
- Family-Friendly Spaces: Updated and improved ADA-accessible family changing rooms to ensure everyone feels welcome and accommodated.
- Modern Aesthetic: Fresh themes that honor the beloved naval design while introducing a dynamic, updated look and enhanced entry and traffic flow.
- Sustainable Upgrades: State-of-the-art filtration systems for cleaner water and energy-efficient lighting for a brighter, greener facility. The new water filtration systems will provide 90% water savings, 50% energy, and 30% chemical savings, reducing overall utility costs and environmental impact.
Why These Changes Matter
These upgrades will transform Splash Landings into a space that serves every member of our community—from families splashing together to lap swimmers, aqua fitness participants, therapy pool users, and those learning essential water safety skills. Many of these upgrades are also necessary simply due to parts and components reaching the end of their useful life. Splash Landings is a facility designed to support recreation, wellness, and lifelong memories.
Project Timeline
Splash Landings construction will begin in late July 2025. The Park District will celebrate a Grand Reopening of Splash Landings in Spring 2026. July 3 will be the last day that the Splash Landings Indoor Aquatic Center will be open for 2025.
Lap Swimmers
The Park District continues to explore alternative pool locations for our lap swimmers and Aqua Fit participants. Lap Swimmers will have access to the two outdoor aquatic centers at Flick Park and Roosevelt Park during the summer season, with additional lap swimming hours being added and dates being extended into September, depending on weather, at Flick Outdoor Aquatic Center to accommodate increased usage.
