Glenview Park Foundation Scholarships Increased Nearly Six-fold

The Glenview Park Foundation revealed it expanded its support for the Glenview Park District’s Leisureship Fund in 2020, providing $63,825 in scholarships for families to participate in learning and recreational opportunities they otherwise could not afford. The Foundation typically donates 10% of net operating income annually, capped at $10,000, to the Leisureship Fund; however, in 2020, the Foundation Board voted to increase contributions to support the community during the pandemic. Leisureship dollars allow families to afford programs such as Camp REC, a K-8 learning program offered by the Park District last year that provided full day programming and childcare services after accessible childcare options diminished due to the pandemic.

“The Leisureship program was critical during the pandemic while my business suffered and my husband lost his job,” said one Glenview community member who asked to remain anonymous. “Our Leisureship provided us with much-needed childcare support we would have otherwise not been able to afford without financial aid.”

“Camp REC was perfect for my family because my son was able to learn remotely and also enjoy fun activities,” said Alyssa, another community member. “Without Camp REC and the Leisureship Fund, I likely wouldn’t be able to work because I would have to stay home with my son.”

Since its inception in 1996, the Glenview Park Foundation has raised more than $2.3 million through private and public donations.

As part of its fundraising efforts, the Foundation hosts the Firecracker Classic Golf Outing and Kick It Glenview 3v3 Soccer Fest to help support the Leisureship Fund along with projects including the construction of the Wagner Farm Heritage Center, development of five playgrounds, and renovation of the Willow Park Fieldhouse for use by children and adults with disabilities. The Firecracker Classic and Soccer Fest, which were cancelled last year due to the pandemic, will take place the weekend of June 18, 2021.
