Glenview Community Ice Center Staff Recognized with Awards for Excellence on the Ice

tor at the Glenview Community Ice Center, accepted the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois’ Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony on May 31. Josh Fischel, a Glenview Park District Skating Academy Coach, was the recipient of two honors at the United States Figure Skating Awards on May 16 in Colorado Springs.

Sylvain Turcotte was hired as Hockey Director in 1987 at Glenview Community Ice Center, where he continues in this role today and directs all in-house hockey classes and leagues. Turcotte is a legend in the world of hockey and youth development and has coached youth hockey for nearly 25 years at the AAA level while also coaching the Glenview Stars Mite AA teams. He has developed thousands of players, including Brett Lebda, Tim Stapleton, Danny Richmond, Al Montaya, Ryan Hartmann, Christian Dvorak and Megan Bozek, to name a few. Turcotte was born and raised in Montreal and is a member of the Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame

Josh Fischel received the Impact Award for Community from the U.S. Figure Skating Coach I.C.E. (Influence, Character, Excellence) program. This award recognizes coache

s who actively contribute to the figure skating community, fostering unity and collaboration, advancing the sport of figure skating and advocating for positive change. Josh also received special recognition for his work with Teams Elite, where he and three other coaches led the team to Gold at the International Skating Union World Figure Skating Championships last winter.

Josh Fischel coaches all levels of figure skating both on the recreational and competitive tracks at the Glenview Park District. Josh is a Team USA and World synchronized skating coach, a National Development Team coach and choreographer, and has been on faculty at multiple National High-Performance Camps and invite-only camps through U.S. Figure Skating. Fischel is also a National Technical Specialist.
