Glenview Celebrates America's 250th Birthday

The Village of Glenview will join communities across the country this summer in celebrating America’s 250th birthday with an evening of patriotic programming, family activities, food trucks and live music at Jackman Park.Glenview 250 logo featuring the blue Jackman Bear waving a flag.

The community celebration is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Jackman Park and will coincide with the Bearfoot in the Park concert series presented by Wintrust. The event is free and open to the public.

The America250 celebration will begin with family activities from 5 to 7 p.m., including lawn games, face painting and balloon twisting. A live public reading of the Declaration of Independence is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The celebration continues with a concert from The Chicago Experience, a Chicago tribute band, from 6 to 8 p.m. Food trucks will be located in the parking lot north of Jackman Park throughout the event with food and beverages available for purchase. Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and wear red, white and blue.

The date holds historical significance because July 8, 1776, marked the first public readings of the Declaration of Independence after the document’s adoption by the Continental Congress four days earlier.

Glenview’s America250 celebration is being organized by the the Glenview Park District, the Village of Glenview, the Glenview Public Library and the Glenview Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to the July event, the Glenview Public Library is planning America250-themed programming throughout the year. Information about those events, along with updates and additional details about the July 8 celebration, is available at glenview.il.us/america250.

To help keep the event as waste-free as possible, residents should plan on bringing reusable water bottles, containers, bags and utensils and taking items home after the event.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be canceled. Residents may call 847-724-3337 and select extension 4 the day of the event for weather-related updates. Alcohol is not permitted on park grounds.
