Cures and Curiosities: A 19th Century Medicine Exhibit Opening
Explore the fascinating world of 19th century medicine at The Grove’s new exhibit. See how science and superstition battled for dominance during this time of medical innovation, through historical artifacts and first-hand accounts from several Kennicott doctors and dentists.
Discover the tools and techniques that shaped the evolving medical field, from bleeding bowls to early surgical instruments, to natural remedies from plants grown right here at The Grove.
The exhibit will also peek into the often-reprehensible treatment of patients in asylums and the fight to revolutionize mental health treatment. Featuring Dr. John Kennicott, his brothers, William and Jonathan Asa, and his nephew, Dr. Guy Kennicott, this new exhibit brings history to life.
The exhibit will be open during summer history tour hours following the June 28 opening.
