The Grove Folk Fest

23rd Annual Salute to Veterans

The East Wing and The American Legion Post 166 Glenview present a “Salute to Veterans”. Join us for cake and coffee to honor our veterans. The ceremony’s emcee is Kirk W. Reasoner, retired Commander/Senior Master Sergeant U.S. Air Force and the keynote speaker is Herb Caplan, U.S. Army, Specialist 5 Sergeant. Music will be played by the Attea Middle School band and chorus. The event is sponsored by Greg Goodsitt, Edward Jones and Arbor Terrace of Glenview.

Boating on Lake Glenview - Season Open

Recreational boating is a wonderful way to exercise, enjoy nature, relax and spend time with friends and family. The Glenview Park District is excited to provide opportunities for non-motorized boating on Lake Glenview. The boating season runs May 1-Oct 1.

Neighbors Meeting

Join as for a Neighbors Meeting at the Glenview Park Golf Club Clubhouse to see initial design plans for the new Turf Care Center to support maintenance at GPGC. The existing maintenance facility is located at the northwest corner of the Golf Club. The Park District is proposing to rebuild the new Turf Care Center in the same location. We invite you to attend one of two meetings to hear more about the project plans and provide feedback. More info.

The second meeting date is scheduled for Monday, June 3, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Get Out and Go Treasure Hunt

Get the family out and go on a nature-inspired treasure hunt! Follow the treasure map to search for hidden clues while exploring the natural areas of Gallery Park and Kent Fuller Air Station Prairie. Walk or ride your bicycle from Park Center to Air Station Prairie and earn stamps for answering questions about discoveries you make along the way.

Pick up your treasure map at Park Center any time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Hunt takes one hour to complete, and the event concludes at 3 p.m.

Please note: The scavenger hunt ends at a different location than it starts. If you parked at the starting point (Park Center), you’ll need to walk back to your car after finishing. (Route distance: 0.84 miles one way; Round trip: 1.68 miles)

Historic Holiday Window Walk & Visit with Santa

Peer into the past and discover the enchanting sights and sounds of a traditional 19th century family Christmas through The Grove’s live window displays at The Historic Kennicott House. Small groups of guests will be guided around the festive windows, each with their own story to tell, leading up to the magical moment where you get to visit with Santa Claus. Photos permitted and there is a gift for all. Each family member must register separately.

In order to keep everyone safe with proper spacing, time slots will be available every 15 minutes starting at 4 pm. The last time slot is at 6:45 pm.

Dennis Downes' 20th Anniversary Celebration and Holiday Show: Tied to the Past

This 20th Anniversary Solo Art Show is Dennis Downes’ premier show of the year, featuring all of his newest pieces and research. His works include Landscape pieces inspired by location studies, as well as Impressionistic work, some, influenced by his Native American studies. We are excited to announce that this year the Artist will showcase several Original Bronze Sculptures and High Reliefs; large and small bronzes will be available. As a favorite feature of the show, Downes, author of “Native American Trail Marker Trees: Marking Paths Through the Wilderness” will be showing his most current Trail Marker Tree Exhibit and video documentary. Downes’ Trail Marker Tree Exhibit is the largest in the country.

The Artist’s Historic, 16’ Trail Marker Tree Sculpture; permanently stands on the grounds of The Grove and can be viewed during this show.

Downes will also have a video documentary following his work building Studio North (aka The Barbarian Shelter) alone in the wilderness of Canada.

Each year the award winning Artist and Author donates part of the proceeds from this show back towards the preservation of the beautiful Grove Redfield Estate, surrounded by acres of picturesque forest! This will be Dennis’ last Annual Four Day Solo Show, although there will be smaller events in the future, this is The Grand Finale Show, you don’t want to miss it!

Family Menorah Making Workshop

Join us for our Family Menorah Making Workshop. Whether you are drawn to traditional or modern designs this workshop explores it all! Learn how to make a menorah and holiday décor with us. Each family sculpts and decorates at least one menorah and any holiday decorations they like! Your instructor will fire and glaze your creations and contact you the following week to pick them up. Price is per family. All ages welcome.

Indigenous Storytelling with Native American Indian Story Keeper Wamblee Loux

Join The Grove for an unforgettable experience that celebrates the wisdom, culture, and powerful oral traditions of Native American heritage as told by gifted storyteller Wamblee Loux.

Families and individuals are invited to stop by throughout the day to hear oral histories that have been preserved and passed down through generations. A brief pipe ceremony – a sacred ritual that connects the physical and spiritual worlds – will be held at noon.

Dress for the weather as this program will take place outside. You may bring seat cushions and/or portable chairs for your comfort. Please be respectful when arriving and departing. Sponsored by the Grove Heritage Association. Registration is not required.

Pumpkin Smash and Bash 

Bring your carved Halloween pumpkin to Flick Park and have fun smashing your pumpkin and turning it into compost that will help nourish plants in the spring.  We’ll even have fun rolling pumpkins down the sled hill!  Note: Remove any candles and glow sticks beforehand. Calling all neighborhood groups, businesses, individuals and families, clubs, scouts, schools, service organizations and more! Show off your creativity and register now for our tree decorating contest. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to the Glenview Park District Leisureship Fund, which provides recreation program scholarships for children in our community.

Winning trees will be displayed at Park Center for the holiday season and you’ll receive special reserved seating at the 2022 July 4th Twilight Show!

Camp REC School Days Off Program

The Glenview Park District, in collaboration with Wesley Child Care, has a full day of fun and enriching activities planned for grades K-6 on days when there is no school. Lunch and snacks are included.

Camp REC School Days Off follows the District 34 student non-attendance days. Children from area schools are also welcome to participate on these days if they are not in school.

Wagon Rides at The Farm

What’s better than a wagon ride? A wagon ride AND something extra! These private programs (for up to 10 people) include a wagon ride and either fireside s’mores or a guided animal encounter. Be sure to select your day and time based on the experience you want to have.

Program options: Saturday programs at 2:45 and 4 p.m. include s’mores; Sunday programs at 9:30 a.m. include an animal encounter with a chicken; and Sunday programs at 10:45 a.m. include an animal encounter with a horse.

In honoring the rich cultural tapestry of Asian Americans, we pay tribute to the visionary artist Nam June Paik, whose groundbreaking work continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide. Join us for an enlightening cinematic journey that explores the intersection of art, technology, and identity, celebrating the profound impact of Asian American artists on the global stage.

National Bison Day

Have fun this Fall at The Grove’s free drop-in activities throughout October and November. A Night at The Wagner Speakeasy

Go back in time to the Roaring 20s for a lively evening of music, dancing and entertainment at the Friends Wagner Farm annual fundraising event. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served. Period costumes encouraged! Great raffle and silent auction prizes too!

The Friends of Wagner Farm organization provides stewardship and fundraising support to Historic Wagner Farm to expand programming, create educational experiences and enhance the farm property.

Public Input Meeting: Planning for Willow Park

The Glenview Park District continues to advance park improvements and planning goals defined in our Comprehensive Master Plan to maintain the high quality of park and recreation services for our community.

Parks master plans are essential to provide a road map for the Park District on future improvements to the parks. We would like your input on determining a plan to maintain and improve our parks!

Several parks have been identified for planning including Indian Ridge, Swenson, and Willow Parks. All three parks will be planned concurrently including staff design collaboration meetings, community input sessions, and Park Board review. The timeline and funding for these parks has not been determined yet and the Park District is just seeking input for the preliminary planning.

March 3-7, experience a week of immersive historical and environmental programs designed just for homeschool students in grades K-8. Through hands-on learning, students will explore nature, history, and science while connecting with peers in a fun, educational environment.

Dennis Downes' 20th Anniversary Celebration and Holiday Show: Tied to the Past

This 20th Anniversary Solo Art Show is Dennis Downes’ premier show of the year, featuring all of his newest pieces and research. His works include Landscape pieces inspired by location studies, as well as Impressionistic work, some, influenced by his Native American studies. We are excited to announce that this year the Artist will showcase several Original Bronze Sculptures and High Reliefs; large and small bronzes will be available. As a favorite feature of the show, Downes, author of “Native American Trail Marker Trees: Marking Paths Through the Wilderness” will be showing his most current Trail Marker Tree Exhibit and video documentary. Downes’ Trail Marker Tree Exhibit is the largest in the country.

The Artist’s Historic, 16’ Trail Marker Tree Sculpture; permanently stands on the grounds of The Grove and can be viewed during this show.

Downes will also have a video documentary following his work building Studio North (aka The Barbarian Shelter) alone in the wilderness of Canada.

Each year the award winning Artist and Author donates part of the proceeds from this show back towards the preservation of the beautiful Grove Redfield Estate, surrounded by acres of picturesque forest! This will be Dennis’ last Annual Four Day Solo Show, although there will be smaller events in the future, this is The Grand Finale Show, you don’t want to miss it!

Historic Holiday Window Walk & Visit with Santa

Peer into the past and discover the enchanting sights and sounds of a traditional 19th century family Christmas through The Grove’s live window displays at The Historic Kennicott House. Small groups of guests will be guided around the festive windows, each with their own story to tell, leading up to the magical moment where you get to visit with Santa Claus. Photos permitted and there is a gift for all. Each family member must register separately.

In order to keep everyone safe with proper spacing, time slots will be available every 15 minutes starting at 4 pm. The last time slot is at 6:45 pm.

The residency will offer an array of high-energy group fitness classes for teens and adults. Billy’s infamous Tae Bo is not all about physical training; his classes are designed to increase self-esteem and encourage positive mental health. Summer Restoration Work Day at The Grove

For ages 8+, volunteers under age 15 must participate with an adult.

Collect seeds or remove non-native, invasive plants to make way for native wildflowers, grasses and trees. Bring work gloves if you have them and meet at the Interpretive Center. RSVPs are appreciated so we can so we can plan appropriate Work Day activities. Work parties may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

National Night Out

Join us for a free night of fun hosted by the Glenview Park District, Village of Glenview and Glenview Police Department! Meet your neighbors, community leaders and public safety officials. Movie in the Park: Wonka

Grab your coziest blankets or chairs, a picnic basket full of your favorite snacks and join us for a movie night under the stars at Jackman Park. Wonka (2023) is about young chocolatier, Willy Wonka, who is armed with nothing but a hatful of dreams. He manages to change the world, one delectable bite at a time!

This free movie is presented by the Glenview Public Library and the Glenview Park District. In case of rain, the movie will become a ticketed event inside the Glenview Library’s Community Room. All ages are welcome!

Oaktober Tree Trot

Join us for a trail walk that will focus on the trees of The Grove and learn about some of the trees that are native to Illinois from the Village of Glenview’s Robyn Flakne. No registration required. Meet in front of the Interpretive Center.

Cicadas & the Brood XIII Emergence with Dr. Cicada

Cicadas are here! Discover what all the buzz is about from Dr. Cicada himself! University of Connecticut-Hartford entomologist John Cooley, Ph.D. will be visiting The Grove Program Barn and presenting an engaging, educational, hands-on cicada adaptive program for all. Brood XIII’s exact emergence dates are unclear so stay in the know! Registration is required and seating is limited.

Tomato Fest

Celebrate America’s favorite garden plant at Historic Wagner Farm’s Tomato Fest. Learn all about this delicious vegetable (or is it a fruit?), see how it grows, taste different varieties and tomato-based recipes, play games, and so much more! Entry to Tomato Fest is free and tickets for activities and tastings can be purchased onsite.

Tickets for activities will be sold in $1 increments. Ticket-based activities range between 1-15 tickets. Most activities will be ongoing throughout the event. Free activities include a photo booth, a scavenger hunt, demonstrations, a community-based art project and tomato-themed games. Tomato Fest

Celebrate America’s favorite garden plant at Historic Wagner Farm’s Tomato Fest. Learn all about this delicious vegetable (or is it a fruit?), see how it grows, taste different varieties and tomato-based recipes, play games, and so much more! Entry to Tomato Fest is free and tickets for activities and tastings can be purchased onsite.

Tickets for activities will be sold in $1 increments. Ticket-based activities range between 1-15 tickets. Most activities will be ongoing throughout the event. Free activities include a photo booth, a scavenger hunt, demonstrations, a community-based art project and tomato-themed games. 3rd Annual Festival of Trees Holiday Event

Presented by Light Keeper Pro

Homeschool Week

Summer Restoration Work Day at The Grove

For ages 8+, volunteers under age 15 must participate with an adult.

Collect seeds or remove non-native, invasive plants to make way for native wildflowers, grasses and trees. Bring work gloves if you have them and meet at the Interpretive Center. RSVPs are appreciated so we can so we can plan appropriate Work Day activities. Work parties may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

Indigenous People's Day

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a holiday in the United States that celebrates and honors indigenous American peoples and commemorates their histories and cultures. What better way to celebrate this day than to visit The Grove’s Native American Village and tour the Long House and learn about the history of the Indigenous peoples and their history in our region? Participate in activities like learning how to grind corn and start a fire with a bow drill, Native American games, and see a display of historic Native American tools and other implements.

Join US Speedskating and Northbrook Speed Skating Club for their Tour of Olympians event at Glenview Community Ice Center. Public will be invited to join Speedskating Olympians and current local Speedskaters on the ice to try on speedskates, participate in live demonstrations of off-ice exercises, and meet representatives from local and national speed skating clubs. Historic Holiday Window Walk & Visit with Santa

Peer into the past and discover the enchanting sights and sounds of a traditional 19th century family Christmas through The Grove’s live window displays at The Historic Kennicott House. What’s better than a wagon ride? A wagon ride AND something extra! These private programs (for up to 10 people) include a wagon ride and either fireside s’mores or a guided animal encounter. Be sure to select your day and time based on the experience you want to have.

Program options: Saturday programs at 2:45 and 4 p.m. include s’mores; Sunday programs at 9:30 a.m. include an animal encounter with a chicken; and Sunday programs at 10:45 a.m. include an animal encounter with a horse.

Restoration Work Day on the Prairie

Along the west fork of the North Branch in Glenview is the Air Station Prairie. Sixty years of annual mowing as a security zone for the main runway of the Glenview Naval Air Station protected the prairie from invasive brush. The 32 acres of prairie and mitigated wetlands is owned by the Village and is permanently protected as an ecologically significant area. It supports more than 160 native plant species, grassland birds, many prairie dependent insects and 5 species of crayfish. Species lost to mowing are being reintroduced and old field portions of the prairie are being actively managed.

In October of 2017, 30+acres of this 32-acre site were dedicated as an Illinois Nature Preserve, recognizing this beautiful remnant of the “globally imperiled” prairie landscape.

Join us to clean up the prairie! Meet friends and enjoy time outdoors for a good cause. Seasonal activities include brush cutting, weed removal and seed collection.

Veteran's Day Craft

Have fun this Fall at The Grove’s free drop-in activities throughout October and November. Tune into nature on trail walk events, connect with history on Indigenous People’s Day with a tour and much more. Children under age 12 need to be accompanied by an adult. Harvest Supper (ages 21+)

The harvest is done and Historic Wagner Farm is ready to celebrate with a casual five-course supper highlighting the bounty of the season! The evening’s menu will utilize local produce and proteins from the Farm and will include a selection of beer and wine. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance.

Center Stage in Lake Forest presents William Shaespeare’s MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, the wittiest war of words ever staged. Robert's Yukon Adventure Day

Illinois’ first naturalist, Robert Kennicott, grew up at The Grove and made two expeditions to the Yukon, in 1859 and 1865. Experience what his life was like in the frigid territory.

Princess Skate

Join us for a night of popcorn, laughs and tons of fun watching the 1928 original silent movie comedy – Speedy. New Discovery Room Grand Opening

Explore the new Discovery Room at The Grove! Join us for a free community grand opening celebration and open house. The Discovery Room includes a replica of Robert Kennicott’s skeleton, a large multi-species landform exhibit, enhancement of the current scavenger hunt exhibit, interactive discovery table, welcoming kiosks, and framing of existing animal exhibits.

The Discover Room renovation was funded through a $375,000 Illinois Public Museum Capital grant, and designed by Bluestone and Associates.

A public presentation & dedication will be held at 10 a.m. Enjoy a free open house with activities, giveaways, & more from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Christmas Candlelight Tours

Step back in time to discover the enchanting sights and sounds of a traditional 19th century family Christmas during this candlelight event. Guests will be ushered through the festively adorned rooms of the 1856 Kennicott House by a historically-dressed guide. Tours end with a visit and small gift from Santa. One-hour time slots are available from 4-6:45 pm.

Join the Grove Heritage Association (GHA) for a fundraising event featuring a wonderful brunch with omelet stations, shopping with featured artisans from the upcoming Holiday Market, and exceptional entertainment. In a living history portrayal, award-winning historian Leslie Goddard depicts biologist Rachel Carson. Join us as we gather with the trees that are shedding their leaves. Use breathing exercises to explore our cycle of breath with the plant life around us. We will explore the forest using our observation skills to notice how the wind impacts the sounds, textures, and scent of the forest.

Rockin’ Out Concert Featuring Sweeney!

Indigenous Drum Demonstration

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of Native American Indian culture with a drum demonstration by the Bull Valley Singers. Learn about the spiritual significance of the drum and hear the stories of songs.

Richardson Park Pickleball Input Meeting

Richardson Park has been identified as a potential site for new pickleball courts as part of the Park District’s Pickleball Feasibility Study. We are inviting Richardson Park neighbors to join us to provide feedback on design concepts as part of our planning process. This meeting will be held at Park Center in Room 101.

Winter Dance Production “ONCE UPON A TIME”
