Central Parkway Bridge Replacement
We appreciate your patience and support as we move forward with improving pedestrian connectivity in the community. Check back here for further updates as construction progresses.
The pedestrian bridge that spans from Central Parkway (Raleigh Road) over the West Fork North Branch of the Chicago River is maintained by the Glenview Park District. The Park District will be replacing the bridge with support from a $225,500 “Invest in Cook” grant from the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways and $100,000 from the Village of Glenview.
Updates
11/21/25– Nicor Gas has completed re-installing their natural gas line under the river that had been disconnected for the bridge construction. The site is being restored with topsoil, seed and erosion control blanket. Further, the concrete sidewalk squares that were removed for this work will be replaced with new concrete tomorrow. The final details are the removal of the construction fencing and washing mud off of the pavement. With all of this completed, the bridge is scheduled to open on Saturday, November 22.
Nicor caused damage to the site, and the Park District, along with our bridge contractor, is working closely with Nicor to complete the necessary repairs. In the meantime, the Park District is making repairs to ensure the site remains safe for public use. Additional restoration work may be required due to impacts within the right-of-way. Any further repair needs will be evaluated and addressed as the project progresses, and we will share updates with the community as more information becomes available. We appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this process.
11/18/25– The original Central Parkway Bridge has been removed and replaced with a new pedestrian bridge. Nicor Gas is currently re-installing a gas line under the river that had to be removed for the bridge construction. In addition, Nicor has discovered nearby pipe that has deteriorated and also needs replacing. NiCor anticipates this work to be completed within the next week. For safety purposes, the bridge will remain closed while Nicor does their work.
