Tomato Fest
Celebrate America’s favorite garden plant at Historic Wagner Farm’s Tomato Fest. Learn all about this delicious vegetable (or is it a fruit?), see how it grows, taste different varieties and tomato-based recipes, play games, and so much more! Entry to Tomato Fest is free and tickets for activities and tastings can be purchased onsite.
Tickets for activities will be sold in $1 increments. Ticket-based activities range between 1-15 tickets. Most activities will be ongoing throughout the event. Free activities include a photo booth, a scavenger hunt, demonstrations, a community-based art project and tomato-themed games. Ticket-based tastings include grilled cheese with tomato soup, less traditional tomato-based recipes and a special Bloody Mary bar (alcohol optional).
New at this year’s Tomato Fest, enjoy music throughout the day by students at School of Rock. Our spaghetti eating contest starts at 12:30 pm. Sign up onsite by 12:15 pm and twirl, slurp, and savor your way to victory!
Free parking is available in the lot across from the Wagner Farm House or in the Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church lot at Lake Ave. and Wagner Rd.

Join The Grove and the Glenview Gardeners to learn about the wild and wonderful lives of moths, nature’s nocturnal pollinators! Local lepidopterist Violet Krol will discuss how moths differ from butterflies, their importance as pollinators, and what you can do to support them.

Summer Restoration Work Day at The Grove
For ages 8+, volunteers under age 15 must participate with an adult.
Collect seeds or remove non-native, invasive plants to make way for native wildflowers, grasses and trees. Bring work gloves if you have them and meet at the Interpretive Center. RSVPs are appreciated so we can so we can plan appropriate Work Day activities. Work parties may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

During week one, learn how to make a genuine 1920s dress using Mary Brooks Picken’s infamous (and highly adaptable) one-hour dress pattern. Week two, explore 1920s hairdos. Week three, complete your costume with a 1920s makeup-look and celebrate your hard work and accomplishments with delicious mocktails!

New Discovery Room Grand Opening
Explore the new Discovery Room at The Grove! Join us for a free community grand opening celebration and open house. The Discovery Room includes a replica of Robert Kennicott’s skeleton, a large multi-species landform exhibit, enhancement of the current scavenger hunt exhibit, interactive discovery table, welcoming kiosks, and framing of existing animal exhibits.
The Discover Room renovation was funded through a $375,000 Illinois Public Museum Capital grant, and designed by Bluestone and Associates.
A public presentation & dedication will be held at 10 a.m. Enjoy a free open house with activities, giveaways, & more from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
