Park District and Greener Glenview Partner to Present 2nd Annual SportSwap for Gently Used Equipment

All Proceeds Benefit the Glenview Park Foundation

The Glenview Park District and Greener Glenview are partnering to host the second Glenview SportSwap, a community project that supports sustainability by keeping used sport equipment out of the landfill. Used sports equipment will be available at affordable prices, with proceeds from the SportSwap benefiting the Glenview Park Foundation.

Donated sports equipment should be “gently used” or like new. A list of accepted items can be found at GreenerGlenview.org.

Participants donating equipment can bring all items to Park Center West Gym on Friday, August 23, from 12-6 p.m. and Saturday August 24, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Donors will receive a voucher as “credit” for each donated item. The amount of the voucher will vary based upon the type of items dropped off rather than item’s original price. Ice hockey equipment will not be accepted, and donated items will not be accepted on the day of the SportSwap.

Community members are invited to shop and save at the SportSwap on Sunday, August 25, from 12-3 p.m. Vouchers are not needed to shop, and items can be purchased with cash or vouchers. Credit card payment will not be available. Vouchers must be presented at checkout for use as payment. Shoppers are encouraged to bring a bag to take home purchases.

Items are generally divided into four categories: balls, priced at $1; accessories/miscellaneous items, priced at $1; shoes, priced at $5; and equipment, priced at $10. For pricing and a list of accepted items, visit GreenerGlenview.org.

“We held our first Swap last year and it was fun and very successful,” said Ann Yoshida, Greener Glenview member and event organizer. “We had great feedback from the community and can’t wait to hold the event again this year. By participating in the Swap, the community is helping people save money and re-use perfectly good sports equipment. Having a chance to de-clutter garages and closets is an added bonus!”
