Exciting New Green Projects in 2021

Monarchs in the Rough at Glenview Park Golf Club
The vision of this project is to establish and grow the Monarch butterfly population on the golf course and within the Glenview community. It will create multiple habitats on the course using the existing milkweed areas as small ecosystems.

Park Center Preschool STEAM Classroom Furniture
As part of the new DCFS preschool for 3 and 4 year olds, a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) component has been added to the curriculum. The grant will be used to purchase more STEAM furniture to engage and encourage children’s curiosity in these areas. Ideas include science center, light tables, interactive STEAM library, live habitats and more.

The Grove Food Forest
The project’s goal is to develop a fully functional food forest where visitors can learn about ecological diversity. A food forest is a system of edible plants that are grown together to create a low maintenance, self-sustaining natural habitat. It’s based off of a fully functioning woodland ecosystem. Food harvested from the forest will be donated to local food pantries, used for programs or sold at the local farmers market.
