Glenview National 9 Golf Club Is Now Glenview Prairie Club – Golf & Paddle
The Glenview Park District has announced that the name of the park district’s new golf and paddle tennis facility, formerly known as Glenview National 9 Golf Club, has been changed to Glenview Prairie Club – Golf & Paddle. The facilitiy, located at 2800 West Lake Ave., will include the existing nine-hole golf course, four paddle tennis courts open to the public for year round use and a 2,600 square foot clubhouse with a small pro shop, elevated paddle court viewing area, food and beverage service, and an outdoor patio overlooking the ninth green. The golf course is expected to open in April with construction on the clubhouse and paddle tennis courts being completed shortly afterward.

Park District Introduces New Paddle Tennis Pro
The Glenview Park District is proud to announce and welcome Tony Marino as the new Head Paddle Tennis Professional. Marino will be responsible for overseeing the paddle tennis programs, including all instruction at our new golf and paddle tennis facility opening in April.
Marino joins the Glenview Park District from Valley Lo Sports Club in Glenview where he served as Director of Racquet Sports for the past seven years. His responsibilities there included overseeing and expanding all men’s and women’s platform tennis and tennis programs. Prior to that he gained valuable teaching experience serving as the Head Tennis/Platform Professional and Junior Program Coordinator positions at North Shore Country Club in Glenview from 2001-2006.
Marino became a certified platform tennis professional in 2006 through the Professional Platform Tennis Association (PPTA). He also worked at Forest View Racquet and Fitness Club located in Arlington Heights as the Associate Tennis Professional. Tony has been playing tennis since he was 6, platform tennis since 2000, and has won numerous tournaments and accolades throughout the years. He attended Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa.

What is Paddle Tennis?
Platform (aka “Paddle” ) tennis is an American racquet sport that is a cross between tennis and racquetball. Paddle is played outdoors from fall to spring on small, enclosed courts (60’ x 30′). Players use a paddle and rubber ball to play the game.
Paddle is easy to learn and is played by people of all ages and skill levels.
If you are looking for fresh air, a fun workout, competition and social engagement on a chilly day or night – paddle is for you!

… It’s Not Just a Hut
Our four-court paddle tennis complex (shown below) is part of a new 2,600 square foot state-of-the art clubhouse serving paddle tennis players during cold weather months and golfers during the warm golfing season.
Clubhouse amenities will include:
- Fireplace
- Food and beverage service
- Pro shop
- Indoor viewing area of paddle courts
- Outdoor deck overlooking golf course

Paddle Courts Installed, Club House Drywall Up
As February ended, exterior work got into high gear with paddle court decking, fencing and lights installed. Inside the clubhouse, work on the fireplace was being finished up and some interior painting getting started. Keep checking back to watch this exciting new facility taking shape. The new clubhouse will open in April 2013 in time for the start of the golf season. Paddle lessons and events will begin to be offered in preparation for the upcoming Fall 2013 paddle tennis season. Check this site often to watch our progress!

Dave Woolf
Director of Racquet Sports
Dave Woolf, who earned his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin, is a former top ten nationally-ranked collegiate tennis player and two-time Chicago Platform Tennis Charities (CPTC) Series I league champion. Dave has been a tennis professional at the Glenview Tennis Club for the past 25 years and manager of the facility since 2005.
Dave began playing tennis when he was very young and has played paddle tennis for more than ten years, serving as the first paddle pro at the Valley Lo Club in Glenview. He believes both paddle tennis and tennis promote a healthy synergy of physical and mental health and looks forward to helping expand participation in the sport of paddle tennis in Glenview.

Blake Manhart
Facility and Golf Operations Manager
Blake Manhart earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and worked as a financial representative for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network before joining the Glenview Park District as manager of the Glenview National 9 Golf Club in 2006.
A golfer since the age of 4, Blake’s passion for the game is the driving force behind the club and the staff’s enthusiasm to share this great game! Working with our partner, Kinetic Performance Center, Blake was instrumental in the introduction of Junior Golf Performance, a new, cutting-edge golf and athletic development program offered exclusively at National 9 which challenges traditional, junior golf programming to help children excel at all levels of golf.
Advisory Committee
This collaborative committee meets with our staff every month to share information and make recommendations on the development of the programs, activities and operations for the new paddle club.
The committee is comprised of ten resident paddle enthusiasts and active players that were appointed based on an application process held this past summer.
