Construction Updates
GLENVIEW, IL, April 4, 2011 – 2011 promises to be a busy construction season as the district moves ahead on several projects:

Administrative Offices
Progress on the renovation of the Glenview Park District’s Administration Building at 1930 Prairie Street continues on schedule as the Village of Glenview’s Historic Preservation Commission approved planned modifications to the 82 year old building at its February meeting. (See rendering at left.) Alterations to this building which originally housed the Library and Village Hall and has served as the park district’s administrative headquarters since 1980 include creating a single central front entrance, connecting the second story peaks on the east and west ends of the building to create a full second story of office space, completely gutting and reconfiguring the offices on both floors and total replacement of electrical, heating and air conditioning systems. The plan must now be presented to and approved by the Village Planning and Appearance Commissions before the project can go out for bids. Construction is expected to begin in August and continue for 6-8 months. Prior to start of construction, administrative staff will move to a yet to be determined location probably sometime in June.
Carriage House and Pavillion at The Grove
Two new structures that will complement and enhance the Redfield Estate’s capabilities to host private and park district events are nearing completion at The Grove National Historic Landmark, 1421 Milwaukee Ave. A Carriage House style building has been constructed in a spot to the south of the 1920s Estate where a 1950s era garage formerly stood. This new building increases the amount of storage space available to support rental activities and park district events held at the house and also includes outside access bathrooms to serve casual visitors to The Grove. A 30′ x 60′ stone pavilion complete with outdoor fireplace is being added in the meadow west of the Redfield’s Great Room and will be available for use by anyone renting the Redfield Estate. Both buildings are designed in the style of the Redfield House and constructed of similar materials. After construction is completed in late spring, the area surrounding and adjacent to the three structures will be re-landscaped to reflect a more formal garden-like appearance.
Willow Park Fieldhouse
Renovation of Willow Park Fieldhouse, 2600 Greenwood Rd., is expected to get underway in early summer. This cooperative project, supported by the Glenview Park District, Glenview Park Foundation, North Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA) and NSSRA Foundation, will include accessibility modifications to allow the fieldhouse to serve as a primary space for NSSRA and Glenview Park District programs. Outside access bathrooms for park users will also be added. A grand re-opening celebration will be held in the fall.
Park Center Health & Fitness Expansion
A 4,000 square foot expansion to serve the needs of our rapidly growing health club membership is now in the design-development phase. This second floor addition will extend west of the fitness floor and south of the indoor track at Park Center and will include an expanded spinning room, second group exercise studio, and additional office and storage areas as well as space to accommodate future new developments in fitness. Also included in this project will be a modification of the driveway in front of the gym entry door to include a drop-off pick-up lane. Plans currently call for construction to begin in late summer with a targeted completion in the first quarter to 2012.
