Outdoor Pool Rules – 2012
The following are the rules and regulations adopted by the Board of Park Commissioners for the safety and welfare of the swimming pool patrons at Flick and Roosevelt Pools. For a printable copy of these rules, click here.
Season Memberships
- Season memberships are issued as a privilege to residents of the Glenview Park District and nonresidents. Memberships are issued to a specific person and may NOT be transferred. Memberships will be confiscated, without refund if misused.
- A valid Glenview Park District issued photo I.D. membership card must be presented in order to gain admittance to the pool. Memberships are valid at both Flick and Roosevelt outdoor aquatics facilities. Outdoor pool memberships are valid at our indoor facility, Splash Landings, when the outdoor pool daily session is cancelled due to weather. These indoor public session times are different and outdoor membership can only be used during indoor public swim time as specified in the Glenview Park District summer 2012 brochure. Additional information about using Splash Landings during rainout times will be posted at the indoor and outdoor pools.
- If a member forgets their membership card, there is a $2 lookup fee per person not to exceed $8 per family each day.
- Replacement membership cards are issued at $10 per card at Park Center.
- A service fee of $15 per person (maximum of $30) will be charged on all outdoor pool membership refunds prior to opening day. No refunds will be issued after opening day.
- For guest passes, the member must accompany their guest when entering the facility. Guest passes will only be sold at Park Center.
Weather Related Pool Opening & Closing
- Opening and closing of the pools is subject to prevailing weather conditions, including cold weather, electrical storms and heavy rains. Pools will close for the session if fewer than 25 swimmers are present after 1 pm of that session or if the temperature is 68 degrees or below. If lightning and/or thunder is in the area and/or the Thorguard Protection system issues a warning, the pool deck will be cleared and will not reopen until an all clear siren (3 short blasts) is heard. If conditions force two consecutive 30-minute closures, the pool will be closed until 5 pm. The weather will be reevaluated at 4 pm to determine whether the facility will reopen for the evening session beginning at 5 pm. If the consecutive closings occur during the 4 pm to closing time, the pool will close for the remainder of the day.

Age Restrictions
- Children under the age of nine (9) must be supervised by an adult (16 years of age or older). Children under 24 mths of age as of June 1, 2012 are not required to have a pass to be admitted to the pool during scheduled public swim time when accompanied by an adult.
- Children six years of age and younger only are allowed in the Tot Pool at Flick. (Must be supervised by an adult 16 yrs. of age or older). During designated Tot Pool Hours, for all children under the age of 6, who do not have an outdoor pool membership, a $3.75 per child admission fee will be charged.
- Children 6 years of age and older must use gender specific locker rooms or the family changing rooms at the outdoor pools.
- Designated lap lanes are for lap swimming only. Lap swimmers are asked to circle swim in the appropriate lane based on their ability.
Health & Safety
- Any person suffering from a contagious or infectious disease will not be allowed to be permitted in the pool area.*
- No chewing tobacco or cigarette/cigar smoking will be allowed anywhere within swimming pool facility, including deck and concession area.
- In the event of fecal contamination, the pool shall be evacuated for at least 30 minutes, during which time the Pool Manager shall make certain the proper procedures for sanitizing the pool according to the Illinois Department of Public Health are followed.
Waterslide Regulations
- Waterslide rules, per required code regulations, are posted at each slide and must be followed by all patrons.
Appropriate Behavior
- Proper behavior is required in the aquatics facilities and bathhouses. Running or rowdy play will not be permitted.
- Behavior deemed improper, inappropriate or unsafe by the pool staff may be subject to expulsion of that
person(s) from pool facility without refund.
Groups
- All groups must provide a ratio of one adult supervisor (16 years or older) for every 10 children ages 6 and older, at all times, in the same pool area as the children. Failure to provide adequate supervision and comply with pool rules may result in loss of pool use privileges for that day.
- All groups must provide a ratio of one adult supervisor (16 years or older) for every five children ages 5 and younger, in the pool with the children at all times. Failure to provide adequate supervision and comply with pool rules may result in loss of pool use privileges for that day.
- All group rentals must identify to the facility manager at least one English speaking supervisor to serve as the group interpreter of the pool safety rules. This person must remain on site during the group’s visit to the pool.
- Outdoor pool memberships are only for individual use. Groups and camps may not use outdoor pool memberships to reduce group/camp rates during pool times.
Attire & Equipment
- Street clothes, cutoffs, underwear, inappropriate swim suits and shoes may not be worn in the water of any pool. Sun hats, sunglasses, clean T-shirts, beach jackets, towels and reading material are allowed in the pool area. Proper swim attire for all patrons, both child and adult, is required on the pool deck.
- Children who are not potty-trained must wear tightly fitted rubber pants in the pool. Diapers are not allowed in the pool.
- Baby carriers and baby buggies/ strollers on wheels are allowed on the pool deck. However, children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
- The Glenview Park District will have lifejackets available for non-swimmers to use at the outdoor pools on a first come, first serve basis free of charge. Parents/Guardians are responsible for assuring that the lifejacket properly fits and is securely fastened.
- Swimming accessories such as beach balls, kickboards, diving rings, and other such items will be allowed in designated areas of the pool at the discretion of the manager. No flotation device/raft wider than 30″ and/or longer than 72″ will be allowed at any time. No ring or tube without an open center such as a snow tube will be allowed for safety reasons. Face masks and goggles containing glass lenses are not allowed.
- Sunscreen and suntan lotions in plastic containers are allowed on the pool deck.
- Personal chairs and lounges are allowed on the grass and deck areas only. Park District provided chairs and lounges will be allowed on the deck area only. Adult only chairs will be specifically identified and are provided on a first come basis. Children are not allowed to use these adult designated chairs. Personal radios will be of the headphone type only. Lockers are available for daily use only. No items may be left overnight. Guests must provide their own lock. Lost or stolen articles are not the responsibility of the Glenview Park District.
Food
- Only food and beverages, which have been purchased at the pool concession stand, may be consumed inside the pool facilities. Food and beverages are allowed only on the concession deck and rental area at Flick and Roosevelt pools. Coolers are not allowed in the aquatic facilities at any time.
Lap Swim Regulations
- Only persons 13 years of age and older with valid ID may use the lap lanes during any lap swimming times.
- Lane speed markers will be placed at the end of each lane. For users’ safety, swimmers must swim in the lane that applies to their ability and speed.
- Continuous, circle swimming must take place in designated lap swim lanes that have speed markers.
- Kickboards, Pullbouys, flippers, and plastic facemasks may be used in these lanes.
- Instruction may not be given in lap lanes during lap swimming times
- Lifeguards on duty have the authority to enforce rules, move swimmers into correct lanes based on swimming speeds and to implement circle swimming
Violations may result in expulsion from the aquatics facility for the remainder of the day without a refund.
